Blessed are the disrupted,
for they have had everything they ever held dear,
all their beliefs and truths,
shattered.

Blessed are the lost,
for their plans for the future are now cancelled,
their promises made now
broken.

Blessed are the sensemakers,
for they help patients and families
find a sense of coherence in the midst of
chaos.

Blesses are the willing,
for they listen,
available to answer questions directly and
compassionately.

Blessed are the angels of death,
for they shall introduce patients and families
to the concept of
death.

Blessed are the patient,
for they remain with the patients and families
when they call too often,
afraid.

Blessed are those who empower patients and families,
for, in the midst of turmoil and disarray,
they shall respect the family’s
voice.

Blessed are those who maintain the dignity of terminally ill patients and their families,
for they create an interhuman connection
and shall be called
saints.
