The Second Coming
Jesus should come back
And have another go
At sorting us out
Give us lots of footnotes
Explain exactly what he meant
The first time
And where we went wrong
Maybe we could get it right this time
Although I have a feeling
We’d string him up again
For telling us uncomfortable truths
And asking us to be nice to immigrants
We’d make out he was an impersonator
Only in it for the money and the fame
We get taught the same lessons
Again and again
And yet we never learn
How simple can you say
Love thy neighbour
As thyself?
