The Waiting Room
a prayer poem for the dying

Your arrival once unwelcome
now we bid you come in haste
our loved one she does linger
too long in bitter waste
Merciful be the touch
that stills the rolling tongue
and brings her heart to hear
Love’s everlasting song
Now come eternal sleep
she’s restless and undone
bring the peace you promise
please, take our mother home
Shedding all but glory
her body you must take
then fix her soul with wings
for the journey she will make
Return her to the Light
from whence she has been made
leaving her sweet memory
behind you in her wake.
Amen.
