Then And Now

In your twenties,
you can throw back
copious amounts
of whiskey
and wake up
in the morning
as if you
stepped into
a detox machine
before sleeping.

In your fifties,
you can still drink
a fifth of whiskey,
but wake up
in the morning
as if you had
been beaten
by pitch fork
wielding devils.

The first
is called
binge drinking;
the second
is called
alcoholism.

What a difference
a few decades make.
