There is a Season

While we enjoy the love and peace
That Christmas brings this way,
We might be tempted to desire
More than just a day.

If we could make it last all year,
Would that not be a boon?
To think of others all year long:
Joy and gifts and tunes.

But soon, I think we’d lose the heart
For Christmas would be common,
The waiting and anticipation
Gone and soon forgotten.

The mundane, banal, day-to-day
Is needed as a contrast
So we can look ahead to see
Festivals in forecast.

Can you imagine shopping for
A Christmas every day?
Without the lows, there are no highs;
No weekends without weekdays.
