When we want it, slips away,
When we don’t, is here to stay.
Something that is here and there,
Yet to waste we shouldn’t dare.

Something that we’re free to spend
But it always has an end.
If we do not use it soon
It won’t follow to the tomb.

Something that we cannot see
Without which we cannot be.
Partner all through thick and thin
Shall we rather say a king?

Can we ‘scape its iron hold
When a deadline strong and bold
Comes up from the nether place
Versus which we cannot race?

When a happy day does come,
It seems like it wants to run.
When the day is cold and grey,
Always set to make us pay.

When we try to use its power
Makes us fall away and cower.
Something which we must control
Which to do does take its toll.

Cannot make it go away
Lest on earth we do not stay.
Like a lover can be sweet,
Like a tyrant can’t be beat.

Paradox of life it seems
Without which it does not gleam.
What a mystery is time.
Can I really call it mine?
