To leap with grace

to leap with grace
to fold with care
to cherish tradition
to curl your hair

to host the Queen
to hold on tight
to cook a feast
to teach what’s right

to cry and laugh
to beam your light
to paint it pink
to build a life

to be fierce and sharp
to seize each day
to leap with grace
to be Gay

For my grandmother, Gay McGuckin, 1926–2018
