today

(the word on paper
looks too grand
as if it were forever)

today:

lime-green towel
drying on the line,
voices and laughter
over that wall
like rose petals fall

an inch-worm on hot stone
frantic, then still

(and then for no reason
I remembered him)

yet today
is just a day
like any other
