Two Words

Like Hafiz, I try

Not to let “no” come out of my mouth

“No” only happens when someone

Says “no, you can’t be who you are”

Or “no, you’re not allowed to be”

Or “no, you’re not allowed to laugh”

Or break the rules

Or follow my heart.

“No,” I say to that — “no.”

Otherwise, my heart sings

YES!
