Uncertainty
Every time I put my hand into a bag of possibilities
I get the yellow gummy bear.
It makes me hate randomness.
Then I look inside and take them out
one by one, and eat them first
so I can finally enjoy the rest.
I know life is a little more intricate
than a bag of candy. Still,
there’s a place in my brain
where the things I don’t want to happen
exist as a to-do list.
Sooner or later what woke me up minutes ago
will have a check mark on the side.
We mostly bounce between the possibility of failure
and the certainty of it,
and we sometimes pay with pain
to get rid of the former.
Isn’t it funny,
how we try to kill uncertainty
by shooting ourselves in the head
as quickly as possible?
