Unfortunate Tatoo

A six foot ballerina © annie fahy 2017

Do You tell other people
of your unfortunate tattoo
gesture of last resort
when I was leaving you?

You Pulled apart my journal
and found an image there
stolen from my memory
that you’ll forever wear.

A Six foot ballerina
on a half a-foot of skin
in sunrise tulle and toe shoes
dead swan on the point of a pin.

Your Own skin is riven
stigmata from shoulder to waist
a horror movie of heartbreak
the dancer without a face.

Most men get a hair cut
a girlfriend or a car
but you got that ballerina
as your visible scar.

Locked in pain and wonder
she dances on your breast
and though I never think of you
it’s her I sometimes bless.

Locked in pain and wonder
she dances on your breast
and though I never think of you
it’s her I sometimes bless.
