upward into the depths

up and above and beyond
all infinities,
all trivialities and frivolous
diversions,
after the long and
arduous journey
ever upward into
ourselves,
we arrive (by
paradox) at
the deeper internal
core, the inner sanctum
of meaning,
where we encounter,
for good or ill,
the hidden center of
our being.

this breathtaking true
infinity
can seem an endless
and suffocating
canyon of
uncertainty,
plagued by imprecision,
indecision and fear:
of the unknown
(perhaps),
but also of the known,
the very well known,
the all-too-well known,
buried
in the depths of
our interior abyss.

we search, we
grope for
a guide, an
answer, even
a candle:
only to discover,
as we stumble
(eventually)
upon the candle,
that it sheds light
not only on this
canyon, but
also shows
the way
beyond
to the next broad
and unknown
personal chasm
of
uncertainty.
