I saw an old couple today
She wasn’t seeing what he was
He was seeing the world around him
She was seeing the world inside of her
But he was also with her in it
His brave eyes said, “Don’t pity me — I have loved and I love”
I was filled with their devotion —
and I thought of you
And somewhere between my bones and my soul
I felt it could be us
