“Don’t think about what you’ve left behind” The alchemist said to the boy as they began to ride across the sands of the desert. “If what one finds is made of pure matter, it will never spoil”. — Paulo Coelho (The Alchemist)

What Was So Wrong About Right?

In every story I’ve read,
where there’s a fork in the road,
the hero would know the right way.

Well, I came to a fork,
and boldly went left,
but I think about the right every day.

Was I too quick in my judgment?
Did I follow my heart?
What was so wrong about right?

To the right I had love,
and a shoulder to lean,
but alone I march into the night

For without love for one’s self,
to receive it’s a burden,
and without change, that will not go away.

So to the left I must go,
to make a man of myself,
but I still glance to my right every day.
