When we were young

When we were young, time stood still
We were bored and ageless
Free and careless
Wound up in our own selves, no damn to give
World was big and we were waiting to receive
Everything on a silver platter, when the time was right
Heck, the time would right itself, we didn’t bother to fight
Planned for nothing and desired everything
When we were young…

We were friends all sudden and strange
No need for checks on race, creed or age
It was all or nothing and we were fierce and true
Even if it rained sorrows, we always saw it through
Friends for life and life for friends

The world could wait, we were just taking the bend
And soon the road wasn’t straight anymore
And one by one, everyone took their own exit out to go
There was just too much laughter to understand
Maybe our paths would never cross again

Now we are caught up in that everlasting storm of mundane life
And the glue that bound us, ran, diluted by the busy lives
Of us slaves, cogs, stooges, no more ageless, no more careless
We run through the day, only to wake up to yesterday
And there is no time for friends
No time to look for the good old times
Gone forever, along with the company
And we survive
And say we are alive
And we’re no longer young and crazy
And we’re no longer the friends that we were
When we were young…
