I smile at you
For a meaningless reason.
I tell myself I did that
To make you smile too,
But that’s a lie.
For I did that
Because as our eyes met
I instantly dissolved
As if I fell in love.
In a mere second,
In a blink of your eyes
I saw a universe
Born,
Adolescent,
Mature,
Dying.
Five thoughts crossed my mind:

‘She won’t like me’
‘Why won’t she like me?!’
‘Maybe she’ll like me?’
‘I’m pathetic.’
‘So what?’

I even pinched myself
Just to be sure
That you weren’t a dream.
Yet there is something
I need to tell you,
As you pass me, flesh and bones:

‘Please, be happy; smile suits you’

And to think I don’t even know your name…
