People tell you it gets easier —
It doesn’t.
The road keeps winding,
The rust eats away anything it can reach.
But as long as you have something
To hum to yourself,
As long as the dust bites your nose
And the sun kisses your cheeks,
As long as your boots keep walking
And the wind blows through your hair,
As long as you are breathing —
It goes on.
It goes around the corner
And up the hill,
Down to the blooming valley,
Deep into the chilly river,
Straight to the pine forest
Of the unknown
Through the meadow of joy
And the plain of despair,
Until finally
It lifts you to the sky.
People tell you it gets easier —
It doesn’t;
But maybe that is
The point?
