You Are Beautiful

I know you
by the way you think,
your fears, your scars,
the way you learn,
the way you teach,
how I often know
what’s in your head
and how that still surprises you,
your exquisite mind
you don’t always trust,
the wild leaps and bounds
I see you take
from known to unknown,
and this makes you Beautiful.

I know you
by the way you feel,
the uncompromising compassion
in every breath,
the will to heal,
the words you wrap your own pain in,
soft and full of hope,
and even while it weighs you down
you shoulder it with grace
and humble spirit
seeking only to understand
love and hope,
and this makes you Beautiful.

I know you
by the smile that drives me crazy
with the shape of your lips,
the way you pout
when you can’t get to sleep,
fetchingly grumpy
and trying to get comfortable,
your gorgeous neck
and wild head of hair,
a voice that melts me on the spot
each time,
every time,
and your laugh that leaves me weak.
This makes you Beautiful.

You are so beautiful to me
that if I were to type every sonnet,
every love song,
poem, ode, and ballad
in every language on earth
there would still not be adequate words
to describe
the way your face lights up my face.

This is what I mean when I call you Beautiful.
