Winter Tells

You left last night
I thought I felt alright
but I fell all night
deep in thoughts of us together

yet we keep tugging at
each other’s heart strings
in opposite directions
knowing each other’s limits

running so fast
into such bad weather
dust kicked in the air
as I pulled off

and I left you there
in all our misguided passion
but I’ll leave you this time
clean without a trace

among flickering and fickle friends
a candle lit in nearing winds
i find warmth in colder days
and manage living all the same
