I’m Voting for Bernie — Here is Why

In just a few short weeks voters in Maryland will begin to head to the polls. We are in a fight for the future of our party. We are in a fight for the future of our country. We are in a fight for the future of the world.

Throughout this campaign, I have been clear about my concerns with the Sanders campaign. I believe he has been too slow to respond and call out the parts of his campaign that breed disunity. That sow division because it’s what they want. I have also spoken out consistently about some of the people who he keeps close counsel with. For example, Shaun King is a poison to this Party and our efforts. There are many many more.

I started knocking doors for the Democrats as a high school freshman. I didn’t do that because I wanted new friends. I did because I wanted change. Unfortunately I view this race as a fight between two men, neither of whom I wanted as my first or even second choice. But voters and votes matter. We are where we are.

When the polls open in Maryland next month I intend to cast my ballot for Senator Bernie Sanders.

I believe Americans are hungry for bold progressive change that addresses the huge challenges we face as a people. They’ve listened long enough to our go-slow approach on how we get to universal health care. They’ve waited long enough for our promises on student loan debt to be delivered. They’ve waited long enough for our plans on a fair economy to show up in their lives.

While he has earned my vote, he hasn’t earned my silence.

I will continue to speak out against his unfair attacks on my Party. But I will stand up for the changes he proposes that are long overdue.

I respect Joe Biden a lot, he simply is not my candidate. What I loved the most about the first Obama campaign was that he convinced me of the fierce urgency of now. Joe Biden is running a campaign focused on the fierce urgency of delay.

Bernie Sanders isn’t perfect. But, I agree with him more than I don’t. His urgency matches mine.
