Watching Knight Rider (Part 1 of Whatever)

Recapping the Beginning of the Corny TV Show Challenge

Boy, 45 minutes can go by slowly. After only one episode of Knight Rider, I can tell this is going to be a heavy burden to bear. Stopping after only one episode might be foreshadowing a grim future for this challenge, but my determination remains intact. The episode took me back to the old days of watching TV with my dad, just with a little more Hasselhoff. Call me a critic, but the only redeeming quality that I took away from the first episode was the theme song. No matter how awful it may seem, anything can be entertaining if you spin it the right way. The times where I could have sworn audio was playing, but the actor’s lips weren’t moving can get just as much amusement out of me as a well-delivered joke.

It’s too early to decide if I like the show or not, but I have decided that I like to make fun of it. Just 10 minutes into the series, I came across more than one scene that stood out as particularly confusing to me. [SPOILERS AHEAD] The first of which showed a man leaning ever so casually on a car outside of a casino in a busy parking lot holding a gun in plain view of the public. I realize this was the 80's, but I don’t think things were so different back then that no one would have pointed that out. Standing there holding a gun non-chalantly was odd enough to me, but then he proceeds to shoot a man with it. It had a silencer, but in a crowd like that, how does no one notice? Especially considering 15 seconds later, there are 6 strangers gathered around the body. 6 people noticed a body on the ground, but not one person outside of a crowded casino noticed a man standing in plain sight with a gun aimed at someone else. I swear I’m not nitpicking.

The scene that followed immediately was a classic standoff. The only problem with it; however, was the insane number of twists for a viewer just jumping into the series. It’s hard to describe so take a look at this:

That’s only a slight exaggeration of how I felt things were happening.

All in all, it doesn’t seem like I’m going to enjoy going through the entire series. The good news is, after my first episode, I only have 70 more hours to go. Start the countdown! At least I get to stare at this beautiful head of hair in the meantime.
