If you have a NEXUS card … and you should … you may not be aware that the US Government has switched where you manage your profile from the Global Online Enrollment System (GOES) to the Trusted Traveler Program (TTP). This will not affect you or your current NEXUS status, but you will need to transition to the new system if you wish to update your information or renew your membership.

The new system is a lot more user-friendly than the old GOES system but there are quite a few steps to take in order to complete the transition but don’t worry … PointsNerd has got your back!

Website Links

If you are interested in the US Government’s explanation of why they are transitioning and the instruction of what to do, you can check out the website here.

If you are looking to just follow along and transition your information over to the new TTP system, simply click on the link here.

Information You’ll Need

  • First Name
  • Middle Name (if applicable)
  • Last Name
  • City of Birth
  • Place of Birth
  • PASSID (on the back of your NEXUS card)

Instructions

Go to https://ttp.cbp.dhs.gov/ and click on “I’m already a program member”

Then click on “MANAGE MY MEMBERSHIP”

You will then need to agree to a consent:

Read through some information and click on “CONTINUE”

You will then begin the process of creating your new account. Click on “Create an Account”

Enter an email address. This will need to be an email address you control because you will be required to click a link in a confirmation email that will be sent to you.

Once you confirm your email address, you will be asked to create a password.

For an additional layer of security, you will be then asked for a phone number. I would suggest using your mobile number because each time you log into the system, you will be sent a unique 6 digit password that you will be required to enter in order to access the system.

Once you enter your phone number, you will receive either a text message or a phone call depending on the option you choose. I went with a text message and received a code to enter on the next page.

Once you have verified your code, you will be given you Personal Key. You MUST print off or store this key somewhere because it is the only way to recover your account in the event that you lose your password or phone.

You remember when you were in Social Studies class and the teacher was going around the room randomly asking if people read the assigned pages and everyone just said yes?

Remember how he then asked you what was the name of the explorer that discovered the St Laurence Seaway and you were like … uuuuhhhh … I didn’t actually read that part.

Remember that?

This is like that because the website asks you to verify the code you were just given.

Oh, and did I mention you can’t copy and paste it?

Also …we were looking for the answer of John Cabot. John Cabot.

Once you verify your Personal Key, you will have successfully created your account.

Click on “Continue” and you will be presented with some questions to complete your account information. Fill in the information below.

When asked if you have a previous application, choose Yes for NEXUS (as below).

On the next page, you will enter your PASSID (the number on the back of your NEXUS card)

After you enter your PASSID, the system will check your information against the information they have in their system. If everything matches you will receive request to confirm the infromation.

Once you confirm, you will receive a successful enrollment message.

And that’s it. Bob’s your uncle.

Conclusion

There are a LOT of steps involved in getting your new Trusted Traveler Profile set up but you only have to do it once and it will allow you to renew your NEXUS membership, which is something I highly recommend you do. $50 for 5 years is a helluva deal especially when you consider how much time it saves you in security lines.
