The Adventure Begins (Again)

February 28, 2016

I picked up Pokemon Y on launch day while in San Francisco for a conference. Between lectures and meals, I introduced myself to the world and worked my way through the first gym. I made it to the sprawling metropolis of Lumiose City on my flight home…then never played again.

Now, with Pokemon Sun and Moon on the horizon, I have decided to finish the journey. Each day I play, I’ll write a little something about my adventures.

Gathering bearings

First things first, I had to remember what I was doing. I probably should have started my save over, but something told me that would be a bad idea. I’d only invested something like 5 hours into that save, I was close enough to the beginning that I felt okay proceeding.

I found myself in the sprawling Lumiose City, and almost overwhelmed to the point of powering off. Why was I here? Where was I supposed to go? I wandered for a few minutes and discovered I couldn’t go anywhere because of a blackout. Aha. Pokemon logic. Solve the problem in order to unlock the rest of the area. Shortly after that, one of my in-game buddies called to tell me to meet them on Route 5. I wasn’t sure if that was the right way to go, but I’m sure I could find a clue there if it wasn’t.

After a couple minutes ducking into shops to figure out what was where, I hit route 5. I spent the next hour or so battling, catching uncaught monsters, and evolving a few of my monsters.

When I reached Camphier Town, I had evolved my Froakie, Bulbasaur, Torchic, and Fletchling. Satisfied I could take on whatever challenges lay ahead, I saved for the night.
