Play Is How We Learn: 2023 Team Edition
2023 has come and gone, and boy what a year it was for us! As we get excited for things like GDC 2024, 10 years of Poki and more, let’s take a moment to look back on some of our team’s highlights of the past year. 🔥
In March we headed to San Francisco to attend GDC 2023 for the first time since the pandemic. After a four year absence, it was great to be back in the City by the Bay connecting with so many in the gaming industry including lots from our own game developer community who came from around the globe. Our crew became known for our stylish Poki sweatshirts, and we might be a little bias but we do look great in pink! 💕
In April came our second edition of PoSki! 33 of us headed to St. Anton, Austria for a week of skiing, snowboarding, apres-ski, and more! Some of us learned to ski or snowboard for the first time, some of us relaxed with a jigsaw puzzle in The Clubhaus, and some of us got a little too competitive over a quiz night… 😂
In August we had a Spanish themed summer party, which included celebrating the 10th anniversary of two Poki team members, Joep & Remco! As always, we took things to the next level, decorating the whole office with pics of their faces, playing a “casual” football game and drinking sangria while salsa dancing the night away.
In December came our Winter Celebration. Starting with a Christmas lunch at the office, we spent the afternoon celebrating our successes throughout the year before heading off to get the real party started. Importantly — everyone nailed the “glitter glow-up” outfit brief 👌. We’re all about games at Poki, as you may have guessed, and the winter party is no exception. Our gifts awaited us if we could conquer our own custom claw machine...there may have been some tension fueled moments, but play is how we learn!
These are just some of the team highlights of an incredible 2023, with plenty more that happened throughout the year: from Karapoki (Poki Karaoke duh), to new Poki babies being born into the family, and the largest group of new people ever to join the team. All of these celebrations would mean nothing without the hard work our team puts in throughout the year. We can’t wait to see what fun things are coming our way in 2024!
