In a statement published on the official Star Wars website, it was revealed that Colin Trevorrow and Lucasfilm were parting ways on Star Wars: Episode 9.

“Lucasfilm and Colin Trevorrow have mutually chosen to part ways on Star Wars: Episode IX. Colin has been a wonderful collaborator throughout the development process but we have all come to the conclusion that our visions for the project differ. We wish Colin the best and will be sharing more information about the film soon.”

— Disney

Trevorrow was initially brought aboard to direct the film. His previous body of work includes Jurassic World, Safety Not Guaranteed, and The Book of Henry.

This mirrors a negative pattern for recent projects in the Star Wars universe. Earlier this year there were shake-ups at the directorial level for the upcoming Han Solo spin-off film as well when Phil Lord and Christopher Miller were replaced by Ron Howard to direct.

Episode 9 is scheduled to be released on May 24, 2019.
