Our Story

PolarCap was founded by a pair of high school kids. In 2014, a geography teacher had a proposal for two of her students. Instead of taking a final exam for her class, they could create a project that integrated technology and geography. Wanting to avoid anything that resembled a test at all costs, they graciously accepted the proposal.

Plans were made, concepts were drawn up, but oh my god was what they wanted to do originally out of their depth. Plans were thrown out, concepts were redrawn, and with only a few weeks until the deadline, the team developed the clicker/geography trivia mobile game Territory Tyrant.

Being the titans of industry that they are, the duo published their game to the App Store. “Hey, this is pretty cool” one said to the other. “We should do more of this” one of them decided unilaterally. Because they both knew all about protecting their interests, they decided to form a company, and in March of 2015 Isaac Scroggins and Drew Powers did just that.

PolarCap LLC produced a variety of mobile games in the coming year. Wanting to expand the company’s horizons, PolarCap began producing several types of video content in July 2016. Drew and Isaac brought aboard a number of former classmates and current friends to appear in the content.

2 years, 9 games, and 4 million YouTube views after they tried to get out of a Geography test, the team at PolarCap is continuing to produce mobile games, video content, and podcasts with an eye on the future. The company grew to use their internal talent and resources to provide services from web development to mobile game publishing. In July of 2017, PolarCap expanded to produce daily articles around the gaming and film industries.

We’re confident this is just the beginning, and we can’t wait to see what happens next. We’re committed to entertaining & informing audiences, and improving everything we do, every day. Thank you for joining us on this journey. Stay tuned.

Update: September 2017

Since the time of writing, we’ve started using some office space! We’re super excited to be a part of the vibrant community in downtown Detroit, and to be able to produce content with a higher production value (i.e. not out of our homes all the time). Once again, stay tuned!
