Activision released the official teaser trailer for zombie mode in Call of Duty: WWII yesterday. While zombies were a given in the new Call of Duty, people have been speculating about which direction Sledgehammer would go with the mode. Watch it below.

The trailer takes us beneath blood-soaked sewers into the lair of a mad German scientists who set out to create a “new type of soldier” and ended up with “the devil himself.” Because we know that this COD is set in World War II, it makes sense that the storyline is somewhat similar to the nazi zombie story in World at War where a mad scientist creates a zombie army as a last ditch effort to win the war for the Germans.

However, this iteration of zombies is much more dark and gruesome. The cinematography and soundtrack of the trailer are reminiscent of the trailer for a horror film and the gory details of the zombies give off a seriously creepy vibe. Sledgehammer leader Glen Schofield recently said in an interview, “This is unlike anything before, we’re taking players to some very dark, grim places in Nazi Zombies. This is one hell of a horror experience,” and that definitely rings true in this trailer.

Hopefully the return of Nazi Zombies along with a more horrific approach to zombies, will bring some life back to the fan-favorite game mode which has arguably been pretty unexciting in more recent Call of Duty games. Call of Duty: WWII comes out on November 3, but codes to a private beta are being released with preorders of the game.
