Policy Over Politics with STAR
Representative Barry Ivey
In our second episode of Policy Over Politics with STAR, I interviewed Representative Barry Ivey from Baton Rouge, LA.
Representative Ivey serves District 65 in the Louisiana House of Representatives. Elected to the seat in a special election in 2013, Representative Ivey is currently in his third term.
In our interview, we discussed a bill he introduced in the 2020 Regular Session that would prohibit nonconsensual pelvic and rectal exams. Representative Ivey’s bill was nearly identical to a bill by Representative Edmond Jordan, but Ivey’s bill was killed in committee whereas Jordan’s bill was not. We discuss the politics surrounding his bill getting killed.
We also talk about how individuals and groups with different political ideologies can work together despite political differences to craft policies that help people and make Louisiana a better place for its citizens.
