Friday the 13th: Israel Strikes Iran

On Friday, June 13th, Israel launched the largest wave of airstrikes against Iran in years. The stated goal of this action is to destroy Iran’s nuclear infrastructure. Israel has long seen the development of nuclear weapons by Tehran as a serious threat to its survival. Israeli forces have targeted Iran’s nuclear sites and reportedly killed several high-ranking commanders and notable nuclear scientists. Given the situation, a military retaliation from Iran seems unavoidable. As of the writing of this article, Iran has already begun sending drones and missiles to Israel.

The Israeli attack was not unexpected, even though just a few days prior, the media had identified two potential scenarios.

The first scenario involved an Israeli strike in the imminent days. The second scenario suggested a delay before the US negotiations with Iran regarding the nuclear program, which were set for Sunday in Oman. Depending on the outcomes of these discussions, a decision on whether to proceed with a strike could be anticipated. Several media sources speculated that events would unfold according to the second scenario. This speculation was further fueled by Trump’s statement on Thursday…
