The Russian Far-Right Embraces New Ideology
The Byzantine Empire is ready to strike back
With Donald Trump’s return to the presidency and Elon Musk’s emergence as the world’s leading far-right populist and visionary, the question of Russia’s role and place in this global trend has become relevant. Musk has unceremoniously invaded the politics of many of Russia’s neighbors in Europe, supporting right-wing movements traditionally favored by the Kremlin, such as the Alternative for Germany (AFD). The invasion of American anti-liberals into what the Kremlin has always considered its territory has already displeased many Russian political figures. The question is, what does Russia have to offer, and what is its “alternative” to the American conservative counterrevolution?
In the Russian public political debate, the “New Right” movement, represented by the current US administration, has a rather positive perception. The same cannot be said about the narrow circle of Russian politicians and experts for whom Musk (as well as Trump) is a dangerous competitor. The fact is that Russia has long had its own pool of politicians who exploit the right-wing agenda. Moreover, these people have had a significant influence in deepening the current confrontation with the West, the final decision to invade Ukraine in 2022, and then in its ideological justification.
