Trump’s Approach to Leadership

A faculty roundtable discusses the challenges Donald Trump now faces in leading the federal government, his party, and the country.

The last of a three-part series of roundtable discussions, produced in collaboration with HKS Magazine, on the challenges facing President-elect Trump in foreign policy, economics, and leadership.

Donald Trump will soon become the first president in the history of the United States to reach office without previous experience in either elected office or military service.

Of course, that’s not to say he doesn’t have leadership experience — he is one of the most famous business leaders in the world — but there are important differences between private and public leadership, and without a record in public service, his approach to presidential leadership is an unknown.

On this week’s PolicyCast, our faculty roundtable discusses the history of presidential leadership, how Trump’s business experience will translate to the federal government, and how his relationship with a republican congress could play out.
