I have been working with a California-based get-out-the-vote (GOTV) organization called Field Team 6. Field Team 6 has helped register approximately 1.7 million voters, mostly in swing states.

In my role as a Field Team 6 volunteer, I am helping their development team update their voter guide, called Blue Voter Guide (BVG). During the 2022 cycle BVG was available in nine states: Arizona, California, Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, Nevada, Pennsylvania, Texas, and Wisconsin. We are in the process of creating a new crowdsourcing platform to compile all candidates and endorsers, and hope to be available in all 50 states for the next election cycle.

To better understand how BVG users vote and what issues are important to them, the BVG development team asked me to analyze support for ballot initiatives among BVG voters and the general public in the nine states BVG supported.

I focused my analysis primarily on the 2022 California ballot initiatives, as BVG voters were more focused on those propositions relative to initiatives in other states.

Californians were presented with seven state-wide propositions in 2022:

2022 California Ballot Initiatives

Three of the 2022 state-wide propositions passed in California: Propositions 1, 28 and 31. BVG voters supported an additional three propositions, Propositions 27, 29 and 30. Across the board, BVG voters showed greater support for the 2022 California ballot initiatives than the general public, signaling that the BVG base is more “blue” than the overall electorate, as suggested in the name of the voter guide.

You can read my full analysis here to learn more about how BVG voters expressed support for the various propositions in ways which differed from the general public.
