Ayesha Syeddah, a polyglot and multidisciplinary creative, started her journey in Pakistan. After a whirlwind tour of five countries, the beautiful city of Dublin is now home. When she’s not busy being dramatic (pun intended) and performing on stage, she’s off the beaten path digging up stories. Her overflowing curiosity guides her life purpose which is to uplift and empower creative perspectives that are often unheard, unseen, unfelt or unrecognised.

As an On Deck Writers Fellow and contributor to Brown Girl Magazine, Ayesha’s work has been published in both the UK and the US. She has previously worked for Saatchi & Saatchi Switzerland and is now managing editor of the #BlindianProject.

In her spare time, she can be found reading the hours away, baking with extra scoops of love or translating her melodic heartbeat into writing.

Her project on Polinate will be a play on the word Eire which in the Gaelic language is the old name for Ireland. It comes from the old Irish word Eriu, the name of a daughter of the mother goddess Ernmas of the Tuatha De Danann, the mystical pre-Celtic race of Ireland.

This project is focused on the creation of an independent printed journal that will focus on Irish stories that may not fit the mainstream narrative. It will focus on Irish creatives of colour. This will be a publication dedicated to showcasing their work and the causes they support.

As a writer and theatre student based in Dublin, she has experienced the thriving creative scene, one that continues to amaze her with its ability to continuously be reborn. However, she believes the space is limited at this time. While it welcomes and values creatives that are different to the standard, there is a void that continues to deepen. Although the intention may be there, the application tells a different story.

In the past year, she’s been actively working on various international projects. At one point, she realized that she didn’t have anything in the pipeline that was directly linked to her current position in time and location. There was nothing she could show in terms of work that would give its due to her home and community in Dublin. That thought didn’t sit well with her because she feels she has a responsibility to give back to the community that brought her to the doorstep of her passion.

That’s where the idea of this publication came to mind. She wants to stretch the space she finds to be too rigid. In doing so, she’d like to create a platform for those who need to be represented, such as herself. To show the undiscovered beauty that is created by people just like her, and it is her ode to the many faces and voices that make Ireland what it truly is.

One of my primary objectives is that all aspects of this publication are overseen and created by Irish creatives living in Ireland or that have had a link to Ireland. She plans to compensate anyone working on this project for their work, time and commitment. She would also love to create a digital copy of the magazine and if timeframes allow, create an audio version of the magazine narrated by the writers or voice actors within her network to make it more accessible to those hard of hearing.
