J Vega: American Artist & Producer

Polinate is super psyched to introduce the next NFT global artist J Vega. He is an artist, musician and producer. His composition blends ambient, electronic and psychedelic acoustic with realistic digital imagery. Vega has worked on several high-profile releases from all over the world. His most recent work depicts visionary experiences using ambient soundscapes and generative artificial intelligence (AI).

Vega got musical success while playing in a band called The Speeds. He got various TV licencing deals from The Real World to The Kardashians. His band, The Speeds, received international broadcasts and had a strong foothold on college radio charts.

Vega also played the guitar for indie darlings Boca Chica and produced their acclaimed swan song. He established the Wilderness Recording Studio where he worked with many prominent clients. Some of his well-known clientele are Josh Herbert, crypto influencer Ryan “King” Solomon, Grammy-winning producer Mark Kramer, and the Misra Records label. Over the years, Vega contributed to hundreds of albums by musicians of various genres.

Vega’s newest endeavour is employing AI tools to generate visuals. Last year, he started exploring AI tools to generate surreal visual compositions. He developed a unique style to create perfect audio-visual parallelism portraying aesthetic new worlds. Describing his NFT artwork he adds, “I am using AI generation to visualize adventurous new worlds.” The ability to integrate dreamlike visuals has given him an edge over artistic expression. Talking of the artwork he relates to the most Vega adds, “There’s an NFT of mine called Invitation. It’s part of a series that tells the strange story of a dream I had, and it was filmed with my wife. It was the world’s first NFT created with original video processed with VQGAN+CLIP.”

AI-generated art is appearing to be the next great boom within the field. AI models to create artwork is becoming increasingly popular among artists and folks interested in emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, blockchain, and the metaverse, aka PoliNation. Vega further elaborates on what entices him to the subject, “A handful of AI art tools have become available in the past year. The tech is still in its infancy and results are still clumsy and interesting. The growth is rapid and the potential is huge, and I’m very excited to be among the first wave of artists figuring out how to use these tools. This art form appeals to me because it has immense power to enhance the imagination and expressiveness of the artist.”

AI is empowering a number of sectors with new developments. In recent years, AI technology has grown at a staggering rate and has provided artists access to AI tools. Making this magnificent work of art possible, GAN (generative adversarial network) is one of the most sophisticated Neural Networks to generate art. The GAN-based models for text-to-image generation that have been pre-trained on big data are open source. To generate visuals from a text prompt, these tools employ two different neural networks, VQGAN + CLIP, which function together. VQGAN is a variant of GAN and it generates visuals, while CLIP is another neural network that assures the text prompt fits a visual generated.

J Vega has more artistic flexibility thanks to this one-of-a-kind blend of art disciplines. He adds, “Everything I am working on now is the ultimate dream project. It brings together a number of my different skills and interests and is highly rewarding and a lot of fun.” Vega expressed appreciation for the age of information that has enabled and empowered creatives across the globe. He added that he is grateful for, “The ability to easily access so much information instantly.”

“For anyone trying to make it in any of the arts, the main keys are drive and persistence. Always strive to improve yourself and your mastery of the tools of your craft. Constantly engage your audience and show them what you’re doing. Keep pushing and don’t be discouraged by a perceived lack of response or validation.”
