Social Media and Politicians

In fact, social media platforms are increasingly used in political context. More recently, twitter as a microblogging platform and face book are believed to have the potential in increasing the average of political participation. Using twitter for example encourages the audience of a political leader to participate more and discuss political issues, and this what politicians really need in the parliamentary elections in Lebanon in 2018. Using social media as a tool to deliver their points of views and perceptions decrease the number of press conferences and makes politicians connected to people and more reachable for them. To exemplify, politicians now can give their opinion in any issue and in the same time it occur, since they are always connected to social media world.
Politicians are always quick to blame the media when a news story doesn’t put them in a favorable light. But politicians use media to win elections by getting the exposure they need to reach voters. Reporters have no choice but to cover the people chosen to lead the government. But now and after politicians are using social media as their main platform, they decreases the work of media channels as well as media reporters. Also we can link the issue of using of social media with the Lebanese elections now, since most of the political campaigns for the candidates are running and going to run on social media platforms and on their personal pages.
