Why do people not care about politics?

Why do people not care about who’s leading them?

Why do they only care about the president if they think about something, but do not care about their local leaders?

Why do people not care about who is determining policy for their lives?

People will buy American flag swim trunks and blow up boxes of fireworks on July 4th, but they won’t participate in the democracy they are supposedly celebrating.

People not caring is the reason our republican democracy does not always work. For it to truly represent the people, the people need to represent themselves.
