As the Wall Falls Through, Another Day Another Broken Promise

This morning, the new stands are bursting with both opinions. Some say the newest border deal is a victory for Trump and republicans, while others say it is a defeat. I think it is a huge defeat for Trump.

Let’s start with the worst thing about the deal. Democrats caved in by actually approving the construction of a barrier to keep Hispanics out of the country. Democrats have now officially made Donald Trump’s isolationist views an American platform. In three hundred years, history books will view the barrier not as Donald Trump’s flight of fancy, but rather, the will of America.

On the bright side, the barrier will be nothing more than a small fence, that a chicken could hop. Whose to say in a few years, when (not if) the fence gets destroyed, a democratic Washington chooses not to rebuild it? You could bet your pinky that fence will be destroyed. If a band of Trump-hating Mexicans doesn’t bash the fence to smithereens, then you could bet a group of patriotic democracy-loving Americans will destroy it. If not any of them, I’ll be taking a trip down to the southern border.

For a long time, I’ve been predicting in my articles that the republican party is on its last breath. It is not a question, it is a matter of changing demographics. The old white republican voter dies off, and is replaced by the young liberal voter as well as the population increase of minorities and Hispanics. That is not up for debate. After Trump’s shitty fence gets destroyed, you think a democratic Congress or Senate will vote to rebuild it?

There is a reason why Trump shut down the government over his stupid Great Wall. This was his number one campaign promise. Remember, every shit kicker this side of Tennessee voted for Trump because of his promises to build a wall. Despite the fact that a wall would be ineffective in everything Trump said it would help, like keeping out terrorists and drugs and weapons, his uneducated supporters liked the thought of a wall.

Now the wall becomes another broken promise. Most of his campaign promises became nothing more than visions used to stir the emotions of his base. In fact, all of those things he said on the campaign trail, like kicking out Hispanics from the country, banning Muslims from entering, reopening the coal mine and now, building some fantastical wall, all turned out to be lies.

The one promise he did keep however, was to lower taxes for the rich! Him and his republican government passed a tax break within weeks of assuming power. I thought it was so disgusting to compare how much republicans fought healthcare going to your sick mother, but passed the tax break for their wealthy buddies within minutes! Although America had one of the lowest tax rates in the world, Trump and republican cronies lowered it even more.

US taxes are low relative to those in other developed countries (figure 1). In 2015, taxes at all levels of US government represented 26 percent of gross domestic product (GDP), compared with an average of 33 percent for the 35 member countries of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). Even before Trump, we paid nothing in taxes compared to other countries. Under Trump, our tax rates have plunged even more. The scariest part about that is how much Trump has raised our deficits. If Putin did want Trump to destroy America, he is doing a great job!

As disgusting as this is, there is some humor to be found. All of those bold campaign promises turned out to be lies. Trump did nothing for his uneducated and poor base, except show the world how easy it is to trick them.
