Daddy issues are prevalent in many Trumpkins. However, during the election, while Trump fever was spreading across the country, the passionate adoration for Donald Trump could never quite be explained.

Some of them said, “He thinks like me.”

Others replied, in steaming gusto, “He is so rich, he won’t be corrupt.”

“We need someone who is strong.”

Are those the traits you are concerned with when picking a president?

No way! I think there were some deeper issues, attracting voters to Trump.

Sometimes at Trump rallies, a popular chant would be heard, “Daddy’s going to win! Daddy’s going to win! Hooray!”

Breitbart’s Milo Yiannopoulos has, in fact, taken to calling Trump “daddy.” Jamiel Shaw, Sr., the father of a high school student killed by an illegal immigrant, told CNN that he thinks of Trump “as a father figure” even though the two are similar in age. “He’s the kind of man you would want to be your dad,” Shaw said. “He’s the father figure I always wanted,” supporter Catherine Leafe told the Boston Globe. “I feel like he’s protecting me.” NationalReview article

That was during the campaign. This disgusting and deranged devotion takes an even more perverse identity now that we are half a year into his presidency. However creepy it might be to vote for someone cause you want them to be your daddy, is one thing. What happens though, if this daddy figure turns out to reject you? What happens when all of those endearing promises are broken?

Do you think you would be less devoted to your father figure? Psychology 101 will teach you, the more intimate and sentimental something is, the harder it is to abandon. The ’16 election was so divisive plus, supporters were so enamored with The Donald. As a result, his victory turned out to be one of the greatest moments of many Trumpkins’ lives. It’s gonna take more than stealing food out of your children’s mouths to turn against Donald Trump.

Psychologists across the country detect a twisted sort of Oedipus complex while analyzing the impenetrable Trumpkin devotion. The parent is always in charge. According to George Lakoff, a professor of cognitive science and linguistics at the University of California at Berkeley, Trump is perceived as the “strict father” by his supporters.

In the strict father family, father knows best. He knows right from wrong and has the ultimate authority to make sure his children and his spouse do what he says, which is taken to be what is right…Through physical discipline they are supposed to become disciplined, internally strong, and able to prosper in the external world. What if they don’t prosper? That means they are not disciplined, and therefore cannot be moral, and so deserve their poverty. This reasoning shows up in conservative politics in which the poor are seen as lazy and undeserving, and the rich as deserving their wealth. GeorgeLakoff

Trumpkins are like little orphans and Trump is their daddy. Trump supporters defend The Donald very much like an abused child may defend their abusive parent, or how a motherless child may adore a nanny or an aunt. Trump filled a need in a very troubled portion of our population.

Despite Trump breaking all of his campaign promises, Trumpkins still remain loyal. According to a Rawstory article, psychoanalyst Dr. Justin Frank believes this devotion can not and will not crumble.

“The people who were Trump supporters were hungry,” Frank began. “When they started out they were hungry for something different, they were hungry for change, they were hungry and they needed something. And Trump seemed to provide them with that. And once you provide that for someone they are going to stay loyal to you regardless of what you do after that, unless you really turn your back on them.” RawStory article

How else can you explain Trump’s infallible rise to the stars? During the campaign, how many times did you say, “This latest scandal will ruin Trump.” But it never did. He is our president today, despite stealing tuition from little high school graduates, sexually assaulting numerous women. Why? Why didn’t his supporters care about this things?

If your daddy was running for president, and he was guilty of similar offenses, would you still vote for him?

Trump’s very first campaign speech propelled him to the White House. He knew who to speak to and what to say. His targets were the nation’s most desperate. His plan was to float down from the clouds on a throne of glittering diamonds. Such magnificence and such blinding opulence would undoubtedly earn their votes. Trump was right!

He had never stepped out of his uber-wealthy bubble his entire life. He had never known anyone not in the top echelons of pristine wealth. However, during his campaign, he only spoke to those in poverty. He knew nothing about this lifestyle, yet he magically captivated all of them.

Trump mapped his campaign trail through places where poverty was rampant. From the abandoned coal mines of Kentucky, he assured them that he would get their jobs back. He told hundreds of thousands of opioid addicts that he would stop the drug crisis. To the troubled agriculture industry, Trump promised relief. Not even seven months into his term, already all of his promises are broken.

What has happened with those promises? No coal mines will reopen. Trump has slashed funding for drug rehab and methadone clinics. A proposed tax for corporate America, assures problems in the agriculture industry will remain.

Still, those devoted Trumpkins stand by their idol. They whisper a prayer to him every night at dinner. He is so much more than a president to them.
