One festive tradition that Trump has started in D.C., is the disbursement of his quarterly salaries. Four times a year, four lucky recipients get Trump’s $100,000 salary. His first salary went to the Department of Interior. To Trump, $100,000 is like a needle in a haystack. In donating it, he gets back ten fold. Those maniacal Trumpkins, for example, now have proof that Donald isn’t in the White House for money, but rather to improve our lives. Isn’t that really reassuring?
On Wednesday, White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders announced Trump would be donating his money to the Department of Education.
Education Secretary Betsy Devos was flabbergasted with the generous donation.
“The president has truly shown his commitment to our nation’s students and to reforming education in America so that every child, no matter their ZIP code, has access to a high-quality education,” DeVos said at Wednesday’s White House press briefing. the74Million article
The weird thing about this beautiful moment in Trump history, is that Trump’s proposed budget, funding for the Department of Education is slashed by $9.2 billion.
What do we take away from some such a bizarre dichotomy of events?
By donating his quarterly salary, Trump is telling the world that the Department of Education needs his salary the most. Trump doesn’t give away his salary lightly. But then, he also feels the Department of Education doesn’t need a huge chunk of funding. $100K doesn’t seem so great when you are taking $9 billion.
Hence, if he feels this department needs his money, why then, would he reduce the agency’s budget by 14%?
It makes no sense.
The budget cuts will entirely eliminate after-school programs as well as teacher training. However, it will add money to charter school choice initiatives. Remember, our Secretary of Education, Betsy Devos, has devoted her life to replacing our beloved public schools with charter schools.
