The power of prayer is certainly an indomitable force. According to the Bible, the power of prayer is the power of God. Prayer can make a blind man see and a lost man found. But could prayer reduce the staggering number of heroin addicts? Could prayer stop the car jacking epidemic occurring downtown?

Apparently, Kentucky Governor Matt Bevin thinks so. In fact, Gov. Bevin’s plans on fighting crime with prayer. Literally, his plan is to have these vigilante prayer groups wandering the seedy sides of Louisville, preaching to the misguided hoodlums. These “prayer patrols” have nothing to do with the state, mind you. They are composed entirely of volunteers.

Bevin urged faith leaders, public officials and residents to take a 10-block span, walk corner to corner, and pray with the community two to three times a week during the next year. courier-journal article

Gov. Bevin is also warning of tough tax reform, courier-journal article 1. Bevins will be slashing Medicaid to biblical proportions. Kentucky universities, regulatory agencies, parks, public television, workplace safety, public health, environmental quality and economic development — would face spending cuts of 9 percent over this year and the next.

These drastic cuts to Kentucky teachers and state workers justify these “prayer patrols”. When you don’t have any money to spend on fighting crime, just mention Jesus and ask for volunteers.

Kentucky is a very devout state. A few months ago, Kentucky legislation passed a law that would force Bible study classes into public schools. Imagine if you moved from India or China, and your kid was forced to read some strange scripture everyday at school! Kentucky is such a religious state in fact, they voted overwhelmingly for someone on trial for sexually abusing women and stealing tuition money from little students. Oh well.

In Louisville, Rev. Joe Phelps of the Highland Baptist Church told a local station that prayer patrols backed by the governor are “not the answer” the city needs. Phelps added, “For him to reduce the problems of violence to getting people to go pray for a block is an embarrassment to Christianity. I feel embarrassed for the Christian faith if the governor of Kentucky is saying these things as a solution to violence in our community.” MSNBC article

You find out in life, that someone doesn’t have to be walking through the city park and screaming the Ten Commandments to be consider holy. In fact, the most pious of souls, keep their virtuous manners to themselves. Usually, when people feel compelled to brashly appear saintly, they are anything but. Lots of republicans fall into this disgusting portion of hypocrites. Take Larry Craig, for example. Gov. Bevins needs to have all those prayers directed at him. He may be in some hot water.

  1. Bevins lives in a beautiful mansion that he purchased recently from Neil Ramsey.
  2. Neil Ramsey invested $300,000 in Neuronetrix Solutions LLC.
  3. Gov. Matt Bevin is the largest shareholder of Neuronetrix Solutions LLC.
  4. Neil Ramsey was also a large donor to Bevin’s 2015 campaign.

But Attorney General Andy Beshear said the Neuronetrix investment heightens his concerns about Ramsey’s financial dealings with Bevin and state government. “The fact that political donors like Mr. Ramsey are receiving state tax credits for investing in one of the governor’s companies only adds to my concerns that the governor’s office is being used to personally enrich Matt Bevin and his close friends,” Beshear said in a statement. courier-journal article
