Calm Down, Trump is Just Deflecting

Keep an eye on what he is doing, not what he is saying

Yesterday, Trump accused the military brass of starting wars for the sole purpose of increasing the profits of companies that supply military equipment. As he had hoped, the media went wild.

And almost completely forgot about his disparagement of our war dead which was his intention. This is a very Trumpian tactic. When you can’t deny something, deflect attention from it.

Magicians do it all the time. They call it misdirection. They draw the audience’s attention to what their right hand is doing while they are doing something with their left hand that they don’t want the audience to see.

Of course being Trump, whose motto has always been “go big or go home”, he chooses something outrageous such as accusing the military of starting wars for economic gain to draw attention away from his ridicule of people who make the military a career, sometimes sacrificing their lives in service to their country.

And he gets away with it because throughout his life there have never been any consequences for his behavior. None. Ever. Anything that he couldn’t bluster or lie his way out of, he sued his way out of.
