In the wake of his primary election defeat this past week, North Carolina’s freshman Republican representative Madison Cawthorn gave a gracious concession speech for which he was praised on social media. The comity didn’t last long.

Two days later Cawthorn posted a statement that could’ve come straight from the origin story of a Marvel Comics villain. In it he promises vengeance to all who betrayed him, stating that:

“The time for gentile politics, as usual, has come to an end.”

“It’s time for Dark MAGA to truly take command.” His full statement is below.

I know this is meant to sound ominous and threatening — and anyone who knows me or my writing, knows that I take the MAGA threat to our democracy very seriously — but I had to laugh at this post.
