Four Reasons Why You Should Care More About Politics

You are paying for it; you can gain from it; you can suffer a lot if you let others decide for you; and whether you want it or not, it’s everywhere.

You are paying for it

If you are living in society you are probably working or consuming, and therefore you are paying taxes directly or indirectly, and those taxes are paid to organize society.

Your tax money is used to print money, pay justice officers, firefighters, and many other kinds of public services. This means you pay huge amounts of money every day for the application of laws, and for the choices of your political system as well.

Do you agree with the decisions you are buying? It’s a question everyone should ask more frequently.

You can gain from it

Yes, you could be better paid for your job, the costs of your living could be lower, everything could be better organized, and it all depends on how society works, and you can decide how it should work by studying more about history, politics and then finding the better way to implement your goals.

You can suffer a lot if you let others decide for you

If you are paying your share of taxes and not deciding anything, then someone is deciding for you what to do with your money (always!).

And whether you want it or not, it’s everywhere

Public institutions regulate society. Almost all products in the marketplace are inspected by government institutions (many products, for example, need a date of validity informed in the label).

Industries finance political campaigns and newspapers. But most importantly, all our political decisions coincide with things we buy: the type of meat we eat, the t-shirt we buy, the magazine we read, our shampoo that was cruelly tested on animals, the TV channel we chose, places we go…

So you can’t escape from your political decisions. These decisions will, more or less, haunt you. There will always be consequences of your political choices, and some of your choices may impact your life very directly (e.g., you may lose your job, you may lose all your savings, and your country may even experience war or genocide).
