The radicalization of the Republican Party is nearly complete

Donald Trump may be gone but the wheels he set in motion keep turning as the far-right-wing of the GOP begins to take root and exert its influence.

The party that once fought for human rights and abolished slavery is rapidly becoming a party of slaves itself. Trump’s rise to power and subsequent takeover of the GOP has rendered its leadership impotent and beholden to radical elements that have infiltrated and, even found their way to the highest levels of power within the party, and our government.

How it all began

To some, these developments might seem sudden, but the radical takeover of the GOP has been decades in the making. In fact, the “Southern Strategy” was actually the beginning of the end for the GOP in its former incarnation. The seeds that were sown into the Republican Party by the so-called “Dixiecrats” were the first steps toward what we are witnessing today. Previously, the GOP’s far-right constituents were brought to heel by the strong leadership of traditional conservative Republicans.
