You know that expression “you never get a second chance to make a first impression?” Well, Georgia is going to try. David Perdue, a Republican who lost a runoff election in Georgia for the Senate in January to Democrat Jon Ossoff, has filed paperwork to challenge Georgia Senator Raphael Warnock in the 2022 midterm election. Warnock had beaten Kelly Loeffler in the January 2021 runoff election for his seat.

Whew, did you follow all of that? Let’s hop into our time machine and go back to November 2020 and see if we can sort this all out.

Back in 2020, Georgia had two senate seats up for grabs. One was held by Republican David Perdue who was up for re-election. The other was held by Republican Kelly Loeffler who had been appointed in 2019 by the governor upon the resignation (for health reasons) of Republican Johnny Isakson. She ran in the 2020 general election for the opportunity to complete the term through 2022.

So many candidates were running for these two seats, that no one in either race won a majority of the vote in November, so a runoff contest was held in January 2021 between the top…
