NIH Admits to Funding Gain-of-Function Research at the Wuhan Lab

Just recently, documents were obtained by the Intercept stating that EcoHealth Alliance used federal money to research coronaviruses in bats at the Wuhan lab.

The top NIH official, Lawrence Tabak, admitted that NIH did fund gain-of-function research at the Wuhan Institute of Virology. He sent a letter with 900 pages of documents on how grants were used by EcoHealth Alliance to research coronaviruses in bats at the Wuhan lab.

As Tabak stated, a “limited experiment” funded by the NIH, and carried out by EcoHealth Alliance, was conducted to see if “spike proteins from naturally occurring bat coronaviruses circulating in China were capable of binding to the human ACE2 receptor in a mouse model.” The mice injected with the infected virus became sicker, which was the unexpected result of the research.

Tabak’s statement directly contradicts Fauci’s earlier claim to Congress when he denied the US involvement in gain-of-function projects in Wuhan. Here’s his speech from the testimony:

“I do not have an accounting of what the Chinese may have done, and I am fully in favor of any further investigation of what went on in China. However, I will repeat — the NIH and NIAID categorically have not funded…
