Herschel Walker is running for the United States Senate.

“We, in America, have some of the cleanest air and cleanest water of anybody in the world,” he told a group of supporters. “So, what we are going to do is put, from the Green New Deal, millions, billions of dollars cleaning our good air up. So, all of the sudden China and India, they put nothing to clean that situation up. Since we don’t control the air, our good air decides to float over to China’s bad air.”— Fox News

“At one time, science said man came from apes, did it not? … If that is true, why are there still apes? Think about it,” — Huffpost

Regarding the Uvalde shooting and gun control, “You talk about doing a disinformation,” Walker continued, “what about getting a department that can look at young men that’s looking at women, that’s looking at their social media? What about doing that, looking into things like that, and we can stop that that way?” — Business Insider

Clearly, Mr. Walker struggles to make his points, whatever they may be. He does not demonstrate anything that can be construed as insight that might help our nation confront and solve its problems. He is not merely ineloquent. His speech exposes a lack of thought and broken logic.

It has long been difficult to understand how anyone with such limited mental prowess can be a candidate for important office.

But wait, there’s more!

“The first time he held the gun to my head, he held the gun to my temple and said he was gonna blow my brains out,” said Walker’s ex-wife, Cindy DeAngelis Grossman. And Christian Walker, Herschel’s son, verifies his abusive and threatening behavior.

“Furious with a man who was late delivering a car, Walker hopped in his Mercedes sedan with a loaded gun to hunt him down.”

“I want to apologize to the African American community because the fatherless home is a major, major problem,” Walker told conservative activist Charlie Kirk in a 2020 interview. Yet Herschel walker has sired four children and raised none.

A woman revealed that [Right-to-life] Republican senatorial candidate Herschel Walker had urged her to have an abortion.” The woman is also the mother of one of his children. But the Republican Party stands by him, regardless.

How can someone like Herschel Walker be a few votes away from becoming a U.S. Senator? How can he even be nominated as a candidate?

Dawn breaks over Marblehead*

None of these reprehensible antics or misstatements matter. Not one.

Any of us who have spent our lives in pursuit of reason have been wasting our time. Arguments resting on ordered thought are irrelevant.

Big money spent in service of bigger money has convinced much of the populace that any intellectual approach to our problems will only serve the intellectuals, who have never worked a day in their lives. Eggheads are not the ones upon which this country has been built, and don’t deserve its bounty.

Our fellow Americans have been taught that opinions and hearsay matter every bit as much as verifiable facts. That adherence to dogma is better than critical thinking. That the party line is much more important than using reasoning and logic to come to independent conclusions which guide action. And candidates like Herschel Walker are the result.

One supporter has stated it succinctly.

“I have faith and confidence that Herschel will vote the right way,” said Debbie Dooley, a conservative activist in Atlanta who attended the [First Baptist of Atlanta] church event specifically to support Mr. Walker, a former football star and first-time candidate. — NY Times

And that’s the ticket. Instead of free-thinking and logical analysis, one must merely embrace the party dogma and vote as told. Any stooge will do. Anyone devoted to intelligence and independent thinking has wasted their life.

“How do I vote on this one, Mitch?” is all Senator Walker will ever need to know.

*As said in Massachusetts, denoting the similarity of the sunrise over a coastal town built on bedrock to a new idea penetrating a dense skull.
