“Homeless people made poor choices. You can’t help someone who won’t help themselves. If you give them money, they will probably just spend it on booze or drugs. I don’t want to see them every time I go to the store. Let’s move their camp to the mayor’s neighborhood and see how they like dealing with them so close to their house!”

‘Let’s’ is the operative word, and the politicking never ceases.

Politics is the management of affairs in governmental regions, small and large. The core of politics are the people under these jurisdictions and the policies created by civilized societies. Politics is about people more so than anything else. From an individual community to one entire planet, politics affect everyone, even the apolitical. There is no escape.

Drawing from a deep well of everlasting empathy, many Americans genuinely refuse to reduce the plight of the homeless population to a standard stereotype. While the cruel-spirited generalizations mentioned above may or may not be true sometimes, poverty is more of a symptomatic consequence of policies within our capitalistic society rather than deserved repercussions.
