With many believing the fallout from the 2020 elections is leading America down a dark path that threatens its democratic values we should remember America is a republic. Therefore, as we see around the world, democracy is optional.

Some “educated people’ might say that a republic is just another term for a Representative Democracy. To which, you just need to look at the Islamic Republic of Iran or the People’s Republic of China to know that’s obviously not the case. Also, republic is a Latin term while democracy is Greek. Not even the same etymological origins, that definitely means they are totally different.

In Iran, while the people can democratically elect many lower echelon officials — like their president — the Supreme Leader is appointed for life by clerics. The Supreme Leader also has his say on who runs for any other office and can bar any candidate he doesn’t like from running. What a great republican system, the people clearly love it

Then there is China, a country where the people love their Republic so much they don’t even bother with having any democratic elections. The result is a cheery society who love their very strong and powerful president… or else. Hong Kong seems to love it too as they are jubilantly giving up what semblance of democracy they had to join them.

So when President Trump wants to overthrow the will of Americans and claim any result that doesn’t favor him is fraudulent he is just upholding Republican values after all…
