Climate leadership in the real world means direct collisions not only with your entrenched beliefs and denials, but also with entrenched financial interests and greed of unimaginable scope and cruelty.
Senator Manchin has 10 Grandkids. Mr. and Mrs. Manchin are, apparently, proud to be grandparents of Joseph V, Sophie, Kelsey, Madeline, Chloe, Jack, Carly, Vivian, Beaux, and Knox.
Dear Senator,
I hope they end up being proud of you too when they are old enough to understand evil. When they grow up and see a planet decimated by the coal you refuse to let go of. When they reach Greta Thunberg’s age and realize that you had a chance to put their future interest above money, but refused to do so.
This is not a failure. This is not ignorance of reality. It is a refusal. That makes it evil.
I hope your grandchildren are proud of you in 2045 when they realize that you greedily squirreled away millions, entertained other politicians and lobbyists on your mega-yacht, and pretended we couldn’t “afford” to start saving the planet when you had a chance.
Those millions of dollars from coal that you think will keep them and you safe, will not.
